FYI if interested from Western States Center

Today, 37 organizations and a regional organization representing over 50 Tribal Nations joined together to denounce bigotry and violence before a Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys Rally in Portland on August 4.

On Saturday, August 4th, violent far-right groups Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys have plans to descend upon Portland, Oregon, to intimidate and attack the community. These groups have been involved in numerous violent incidents in Oregon, Washington, and communities across the country. They pair violence with bigotry, making racist and sexist statements and aligning themselves with white nationalist groups despite their claims to the contrary.

That Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys are able to make an entire neighborhood in downtown Portland a danger zone is an affront to the city’s responsibility to maintain public safety.

It is incumbent upon Mayor Ted Wheeler, each City Council member, Metro Council President Tom Hughes, and Governor Kate Brown to respond to this threat in an official capacity. These organizations and Tribes call on these elected individuals to appear publicly on August 4th. We call on them to use the power of their office to denounce the racist and sexist violence of Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys while upholding the values of democracy, equality, and community safety. Elected officials must not abandon the Portland community when we are under attack.

Join us at a protest rally as we gather to make our voices heard against their calls for hate and violence!

“Labor and Community Unite Against Racism and Hate”
Saturday, August 4th at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Portland City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Ave

The protest rally is about 5 blocks away from the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer event to provide a buffer between the groups.

Make no mistake, this rally of far right paramilitary organizations like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer represents an attack on local democratic institutions and their ability to maintain a safe environment for all residents.

This is why we need you to show up on Saturday, August 4th at 10:30 a.m. at Portland City Hall! Can you be there with Western States Center this next Saturday?
