Updated: The July gathering for Great Falls Rising has revised start times due to the State Fair. Our featured guest, Wilmot Collins, the recently-elected mayor of Helena, Montana, will begin 6:00 pm. The monthly gathering is at the Parish Hall of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 600 Third Avenue North, Great Falls, MT. It is ADA accessible and is open to the public. The Mix & Mingle that is normally held before the main meeting is cancelled this month.
A popular discussion session prior to the regular meeting started recently with Aart Dolman, and for July the updated start time is 5:15 pm. Aart will review two books on Islam: Fawaz A. Gerges’s, “Making of the Arab World: Nassar, Qubt, and the Clash that shaped the Middle East,” Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 2018; and Abbas Amanat’s, “Iran: A Modern History,” New Haven, CN: Yale University, December 2017. These two books investigate Islam’s impact on today’s Western World with the result being that Islam is now part of western society in Europe as well as the United States.
